Guar Gum Applications - Rantec Corporation (2023)

corrosion control

Most of the turf seeding, mining reclamation, highway reclamation, oil rig and pipeline revegetation is done with hydraulic lining. The hydropulping process uses a slurry of water, fiber coating, adhesive (glue), seed and fertilizer mixed in a tank mounted on a truck or trailer. Mix the slurry well and apply by spraying to the prepared seed bed. Hydromulch provides additional erosion protection while benefiting plant growth by improving soil moisture retention. immune to dust

Dust is a thorny problem in many places. EPA regulations limit dust emissions from all areas. Control measures must be environmentally sound and still effective. Implementation cost is also an issue.

Rantec offers a range of products specifically designed for dust control.Super Tack®、Guardian® 和 Road TackExcellent performance in disturbance areas, waste ponds, warehouses and construction sites.

For long-lasting protection, Rantec XL™ has been added for weather resistance. Rantec XL™ reacts with the adhesive polymer to form a macromolecular waterproof bond.

Mineral Processing - Adhesive Applications

Pelletizing, granulation and briquetting of fine materials to produce large dust-free aggregates requires the addition of agents capable of binding fine materials together. The choice of binder requires a balance between adhesive strength, green strength, lubricity and effect on the final product. More than one reagent is often required to obtain all the desired properties.

Rantec specialty adhesives and additives perform bonding functions in many industries, including coal and briquettes, iron concentrate pellets, fertilizer pellets and wood-based pellets. Product type selection is a product development task. Products currently used or tested include RX2000™ starch, Rantec UFF-HVS, DI, DIF, DHV guar gum and Rantec's proprietary Oriox™ 255 blend.

The Rantec laboratory has a small drum for testing various materials.

Clay and talc inhibitors

Rantec KP4000™ is widely used as a clay and talc inhibitor in foam flotation.

Foam flotation is a common method of mineral concentration after precious ores have been mined and milled. Suspended oils selectively attach to the minerals to be floated, making them airtight. The foaming agent forms air bubbles under agitation and air injection at the bottom of the floating tank. Calming agents are added to clays to set or dull talc and oil.

Add the KP4000™ guar gum solution to the preparation tank upstream of the flotation tank. During preparation, the guar gum molecules coat the material to be compacted, making it hydrophilic and keeping it suspended and pumped from the bottom of the flotation tank.

flocculation

Flocculation is the process of removing fine particles from a sludge suspension. Flocculating agents such as KP4000™ and G150™ Guar Gum provide bridges between individual particles to form aggregates called flocs. The flocs grow until they are dense enough to settle out of the slurry under the force of gravity.

KP4000™ and G150™ are prepared in dilute solution and added to the slurry stream prior to addition to the clarifier or thickener.

Biopolymer drilling and trenching

Drilling Mud - Well Dewatering

Dewatering wells require clean, biodegradable drilling fluids. At 1 to 2 pounds per barrel of water, Rantec G150™ biopolymer is an ideal drilling fluid. The pseudoplastic nature of fluids provides drillers with many benefits. High shear lubricity reduces pump power required. The high viscosity in the ring easily suspends cuttings, preventing build-up around the tip and tube. Shear thinning on the sand screen allows for easy separation of the cuttings from the liquid and keeps the liquid clean.

G150™ biodegrades quickly without leaving any residue. Spilled drilling fluid degrades rapidly under attack by soil and air microorganisms. G150™ remaining in the well or production formation is broken down by the addition of chlorine bleach or destructive enzymes.

LRMUD-7™ is a liquid synthetic polymer designed for quick and easy pouring.

Other uses

Frac Gels - Stimulation

Oil and gas wells produce additional petroleum products when properly stimulated. The stimulation process increases the open surface area of the production formation. Hydraulic fracturing uses very high pressure water to create cracks in production zones. A special piston pump carries water down the casing and into the formation. When the water pressure exceeds the formation pressure, fractures begin to form. The special fractional sand supplied with water in the formation prevents the fragments from collapsing when the hydraulic pressure is released.

Transporting sand mixed with water would not be possible without the gelling action of Rantec UFF-HVS, GA-40W or C6SJ™. The water mixed with the Rantec guar gum thickens to keep the sand suspended during hydraulic fracturing. The other ingredients added to Rantec guar gum create a thick gel that can transfer large amounts of sand using a cross-linking process.

The drop in gel viscosity after the fracturing process restores the permeability of the formation and allows increased flow of oil product production. Enzyme switches, such as Rantec LEB-H and LEB-4, reduce the viscosity of gels in a controlled manner. Enzyme breakers slowly break the bonds in the long polymer chains of Rantec guar gum. The gel viscosity returns to that of water and formation permeability returns.

gel

Rantec Specialty Adhesive produces usable hydrogels for use in single and multiple use ice packs. Medical and food shippers and entertainers use ice packs to keep items clean and dry.

Fluid supports for geotechnical engineering - Extraction and injection into trenches and reactive dams

Many areas of the planet require significant dehydration. Examples include dams and roads (for stabilization), landfills, and areas containing contaminated groundwater. In some cases, dewatering wells can be adequately dewatered. Other geological conditions require greater permeability and affect volumes. These situations require mining trenches. The extraction grooves generally extend vertically from the surface to the first impermeable layer. The trench is backfilled with a permeable granular material such as sand or gravel. Periodically installed well casings or vertical walkways contain submersible pumps used to draw water from the trench. Mud liners, impervious liners and tubes complement more complex designs.

Injection trenches of similar construction are used to return groundwater to the aquifer.

Extraction or injection trench construction uses liquid support fluids for support during the construction and backfilling phases. After construction is complete, the backfill infiltrates and creates a formation return flow by breaking down the biopolymer. The biopolymers used for liquid support are biodegradable and provide sufficient support.

Reactive barriers that provide field repair have recently become practical. Many zero iron facilities have been installed. Liquid biopolymer supports are often the only practical way to install deep dams. Zero iron technology licensed from Envirometal Technologies.

Rantec G150™ biopolymer is widely used in the production of liquid support fluids. G150™ mixed with fresh water and stabilizers produces a viscous pseudoplastic fluid. G150™ liquid is easily thickened and biodegradable. G150™ Liquid Propping Fluid, when properly designed by a geotechnical engineer, provides sufficient support to prevent the excavation from collapsing or collapsing during construction.

Nearly 4 million square feet of trenches constructed since 1987 use Rantec G150™ as a liquid support medium.

Paper industry - fiber additives

Rantec special adhesives work as adhesives in cardboard manufacturing. Guar gum in a suitable aqueous solution will adsorb directly to the fibers during the papermaking process. Once on the screen and embedded in the paper, the guar gum acts as a binder between fibers and a strength enhancer.

Bond strength can be increased by 10% to 20% by adding guar gum. Sheet uniformity is improved and printability is improved.

Modified guar gum can be used to treat wastewater from paper mills. The use of properly charged modified gums can flocculate fine colloidal fibers.

Waterproof gel medium (explosives)

Rantec UFF-HV, PPN4000 and DI-F guar gums can be used to improve the performance of explosives in liquid. Adding guar gum to the dynamite sticks gives the dynamite sticks water resistance. If the stick pack is punctured and exposed to water, the guar gum joins with the incoming water to form an airtight block, preventing further loss of explosive power. Guar gum added to ANFO granules prevents water from entering blast holes filled with treated ANFO.

Guar gum is also used as a gelling agent for supersaturated nitrate solutions. These solutions are almost plastic in consistency, but are pumpable and waterproof. They are available packaged in tubes or loaded directly into launch holes.
